Often, teens are looking to be understood and find others who can relate to their struggles. Parents of teens sometimes feel they cannot understand why their teens are disconnected or temperamental. At ARFC, we take a relational approach to solve adolescent challenges and provide a safe space for teens to be heard and connect with their families on a deeper level.

Therapy can be a place for teens to express their concerns, explore relationship challenges and even discover more about their identity as they prepare for adulthood. Teen therapy sessions can lead to greater confidence and more connected family relationships.

Some teens may be hesitant to try therapy at first, but our services aim to help every client feel safe, welcomed and non-judgmental. This requires our therapists and families talking about the process of therapy and determining not only the therapeutic goals of the family, but also allowing teens to have a voice in what they would like to get out of therapy services.

Some of the areas we compassionately and collaboratively explore with teens are:

  • Academic challenges or declining school performance

  • ADHD, poor concentration or trouble focusing

  • Adjusting to changes, such as the birth of a sibling, adoption or relocation

  • Anger management

  • Anxiety, excessive worrying or unexplained fears

  • Behavioral concerns or acting out behaviors

  • Body image issues

  • Bullying

  • College and career selection decisions and transition

  • Depression, sadness, hopeless feelings or excessive crying

  • Family conflict, such as separation, divorce or blended family issues

  • Grief and loss

  • Identity development

  • Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or questioning issues

  • Relationship concerns

  • Self-esteem

  • Social skills, relationship struggles, isolation or friendship issues

  • Stress or overwhelm

  • Suicidal thoughts or self-harm

  • Trauma

Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement. - Golda Meir
